Nourish your mind, body, and soul in Hana…

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built.” ~Rumi

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation.”Watching your breath” is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.*

At Hana Maui Yoga Institute we believe that meditation is an integral part of a healing retreat, and in many of our retreats we offer meditation in various forms. There are infinite ways to meditate, from traditional sitting meditations to laughing meditations to eating meditations, and we want to support all paths that lead to a deepening of the inner self. Our location in Hana is perfect for sitting and meditating on the moving waves, and many that typically have a hard time sitting for long periods of time report a feeling of deep peace on the cliffs across from our guest house.

Different retreats may incorporate some of the following meditation techniques:

  • Zazen ~ traditional seated meditation
  • Vipassana ~ or simply being mindful and aware
  • Guided visualizations
  • Movement meditation ~ for example yoga asanas
  • Art meditations
  • Transentental meditation
  • Dance meditation
